These graphs looking at the number of reported infractions of the state’s anti-bullying policy and break them down by type and year.

1. Reported infractions of the state’s anti-bullying policy by type and year

Note: The state has required that each school district adopt an anti-bullying policy and report those results to the department of education since the 2007-08 school year. The state also requires that any violation of a district’s policy be put into one of four categories: physical attributes, real or perceived sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, or other. All four bullying categories saw a big jump in reported incidents from 2007-08 to 2008-09, but then leveled off, or even decreased in the most recent two years, save for the sexual orientation category.

2. Reported infractions of the state’s anti-bullying policy by school enrollment and year

Note: The state has required that each school district adopt an anti-bullying policy and report those results to the department of education since the 2007-08 school year. Some national surveys report that as many as 75 percent of children between the ages of 12 and 18 report having been bullied at least once while 17 percent of students are frequently bullied (three or more times a month). Infractions of the state anti-bullying policy, however, remain in the single digits.
